Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Alumni and Jones College Prep High School

2008-2009 Activities

  • Chandra Papudesu, an MIT alum, attended Jones to participate in Principal for a Day (PFAD) on October 30th. To learn more about PFAD and how you can get involved visit the PFAD website.

2007-2008 Activities

  • Four MIT volunteers tutored Jones College Prep students in math and biology weekly, totaling around 20 sessions for the year.

2006-2007 Activities

  • Two alumni attended Business Council meetings at Jones and joined other stakeholders in discussing how to support the school.
  • One alumna spoke to students about her career in computer science and career opportunities for women in the field.

Previous Activities

  • In February 2006, attended tutor breakfast with JCP staff
  • In December 2005, participated in quarterly Jones College Prep Advisory Council Meeting at Marshall Field's
  • Starting in 2003, organized one-on-one math tutoring program with about five MIT alumni tutors
  • Organized seminar for teachers and students on careers in technology
  • For the Summer of 2005, the MIT Alumni Club of Chicago sponsored a biology teacher to attend MIT Teacher Summer Program
  • Participated in Principal for a Day in 2005 and 2006
  • In 2003, two MIT alums attended Senior Mentor Retreat in suburbs with JCP seniors and principal
  • In 2003, held Tutor Kick-Off meeting at JCP attended by MIT alums and hosted by JCP tutor program coordinator, Michael Beck
