2008-2009 Activities

  • Served as Principal for a Day (PFAD) (October 30, 2008). Learn how you can become a PFAD by visiting the PFAD website.
  • Present the third annual "Meet Your Future: Career Motivation Morning" by alumni speaker-professionals (November 19, 2008)
  • Serve as judges for LPHS Science Fair (December 16, 2008)
  • Serve as judges for the Illinois Regional Science Fair (January 16, 2009)
  • Provide alumni host-mentors for job shadowing students (February 16 and March 2, 2009)
  • Invite science-minded students to participate in the 38th Annual Career Day for Girls in Engineering, presented by the Society of Women Engineers and the McCormick Schools of Engineering and Applied Science (February 24, 2009)
  • Tour the Northwestern University Evanston campus (April 3, 2009)
  • Participate in the National High School Institute's Summer School in film and video, speech, theater arts, music, and policy debate on the Evanston campus (June 28-August 1, 2009)

2007-2008 Activities

In honor of November, National Career Motivation Month, 17 NU alumni professionals from the arts, medicine, law, journalism, business, and the sciences gave 84 informative-motivational-inspirational twenty-minute speeches to over 1,000 receptive LPHS students. The "Meet Your Future" presenters were escorted to 14 English, math, science, language, fine arts, and drama classrooms by 12 award-winning JROTC cadets. All were treated to a photo session and refreshments following the activity. (November 28, 2007)

  • Participated in the 37th Annual Career Day for Girls in Engineering, presented by NU and the Society of Women Engineers at the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science on campus (February 23, 2008)
  • Invited students to visit the Northwestern Evanston campus and sit in on classes (April 11, 2008)
  • Invited students to apply to the National High School Institute's summer program in film and video, speech, theater arts, and policy debate. (June 29-August 2, 2008)

2006-2007 Activities

On Saturday, February 24, 2007, the Northwestern University Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science in cooperation with the Society of Women Engineers presented "Engineering: Redesign Your World," the 36th Annual Career Day for Girls on the Evanston campus. LPHS students and parents participated in the day-long eye-opening career event with alumnae professionals from the areas of biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, computer, electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering and materials and computer science.

  • Participated in the 36th Annual Career Day for Girls, "Engineering: Redesigning Your World," presented by NU and the Society of Women Engineers at the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences on the Evanston campus. Two LPHS girls and one parent in attendance. Presented photos. (February 24, 2007)
  • Offered to bring professionals in the performing and visual arts to hols "Master Classes" and speak to art students. (Ongoing)
  • Provided ten students with job shadowing experiences with NU alumni in medicine, law, international business, real estate, psychology, and broadcast communications (Read about the APS Workshop when alumni discussed job shadowing and view the Job Shadowing Toolkit (Word for all the forms needed to execute a job shadowing program.) (April 2007)
  • Invited Chicago professionals to hold masterclasses and lecture for the Performing Arts classes (Ongoing)
  • Invited juniors and seniors to attend the National High School Institute at Northwestern University for two, three, five, and seven week classes in music, journalism, film and video production, theater arts, debate, and forensics (Summer 2007)

2005-2006 Activities

The Northwestern University Alumni Club of Chicago organized a very successful "Meet Your Future: Career Motivation Morning" event with 11 alumni professionals giving 44 informative-persuasive-inspirational speeches to six hundred Lincoln Park High School students. The presenters were escorted to the 22 classrooms by 16 award-winning ROTC cadets. All were presented with photo albums and individual photographs following the activity.
